Parents
The interested involvement and participation of parents is crucial to a child's success in school. Life at JFK may be an unforgettable experience for our students but it can be equally fulfilling for parents. We welcome parent involvement and enthusiasm in all aspects of our community, and parents are encouraged to develop good levels of communication with staff throughout the year.
The School Board has parent representatives amongst its number and as part of their role, organize various events and assist the school in running certain activities. Often, parents are seen accompanying hikes and excursions or assisting in the library.
The school takes part in Community Outreach, which is organized by our parents. During these sessions, our students are encouraged to work to assist those in the community who are less fortunate than ourselves.
We see it as very important that our students not only donate to good local causes but also take part in activities designed to take time and effort when students really focus on the success of their actions.
Parents are encouraged to involve themselves in their children’s homework. Regular communication between teachers and parents is encouraged through an ‘open door’ policy. Teachers are available to talk with parents after school on any day rather than leaving any concerns until ‘parents’ evenings. Home-school diaries ensure regular communication in both directions.
