“Essential to a well-rounded education”

The Kennedy Alpine Club uses the beautiful surrounding environment to enrich students’ learning and develop their practical and social skills, as well as to give them an understanding and experience of life in the mountains.

For example, through excursions and planned field trips students learn about:

mountain life and living

climate, weather, glacier formation, water, snow

rocks, minerals, crystal formation, plate tectonics

mountain plants and animals and their adaptation to the environment

how to plan excursions, read maps, take compass bearings

how to assess risks, risk management and rescue

skills in skiing, snowboarding and rock climbing, as well as hiking and biking.
